Walking
From Riverside Strolls to Hilltop Views
The Tweed Valley is a walker’s paradise, offering everything from gentle riverside strolls to hill-top panoramas.
For a relaxing introduction, try the Neidpath Castle and the Tweed walk from Peebles. It follows the river, passes through woodland, crosses over to dramatic castle ruins, then climbs up to a viewpoint before returning through quiet forest.
If you’d prefer something more ambitious, the John Buchan Way (22 km between Peebles and Broughton) gives you wild valley scenery and a good day’s challenge.
In Glentress Forest, there are walks of varying lengths: ponds, trails, high level promontories above the Tweed, and paths through mature Douglas firs with sweeping valley views.
For historical and low-key charm, the Pilots’ Trail in Cademuir Forest, or woodland circuits near Cardrona including old Iron Age forts, are beautiful and peaceful.
